School Sports
At St Mary’s, sport and physical activity is an important part of school life. We give children the opportunity to try many different sports and activities both as part of their curriculum during PE lessons and through extracurricular opportunities.
We are very fortunate at St. Mary’s to have fantastic grounds and facilities. We have an all-weather MUGA pitch so that rain can’t stop play, an adventure playground, field grounds and sports markings on the playground. We are always seeking to develop and improve our facilities, with much of the premium funding being spent on better equipment for our children.
We will be having a number of intra-house competitions running throughout the school year which will enable children to experience and compete in different sports and activities. These include netball, football, basketball, hockey, tag rugby and athletics. Children can develop different skills, find sports they enjoy and learn important values including determination, respect and working as part of a team.
At St Mary’s, we also give the children many opportunities to represent our school across various inter competitions against/with other schools in the local area. The Harrogate Springboard School Partnership arranges sports competitions between schools in Harrogate and Knaresborough. These include sports hall athletics, swimming, football, tag rugby, tri-golf, cross country and mini tennis. Alongside the Partnership, we also allow the children to compete across various North Yorkshire Sport Competitions and our local Knaresborough school cluster tournaments.
